The Comeback of the American Car - CNNMoney.com - 1/5/12

The American auto industry looks to be stronger than it has in many years, and Chrysler, which has lagged the industry, is coming on strong, CNNMoney.com said. "Chrysler's had a fairly meteoric rise," said David Champion, head of auto testing for Consumer Reports, of the carmaker's improvement in dependability surveys, CNNMoney said. It's true in other ways, as well: In 2011, Chrysler's retail sales were up 45 percent compared to 2010, the website said. Consumer Reports called the new Chrysler 300 "the best Chrysler in decades," and the magazine now ranks it among the best large sedans sold in America, CNNMoney said. The new Jeep® Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs have been similarly lauded, the article said. Customers like Chrysler Group products better, too, according to the most recent J.D. Power APEAL survey, the article said.

Mopar Announces Charger & 200 Packages - Automobile Magazine - 1/1/12

Thanks to strong public interest in both the Dodge Charger Redline and Chrysler 200 Super S concepts, both packages will be sold as special-edition vehicles for the 2012 model year, Automobile Magazine said.
Dodge Charger Redline: Based off the V-8-powered Charger R/T, the base Stage One package adds a number of cosmetic dress-up items. The Stage 2 kit ushers in a few mechanical upgrades, including a cat-back exhaust system, a front strut tower cross brace and high-performance brake pads. The Stage Three kit replaces the 5.7-liter V-8 with Mopar's aluminum-block 426-cubic-inch Hemi crate motor.
Chrysler 200 Super S: Building off the semi-sinister look of the stock 200 S, the Super S retains the darkened headlamp surrounds, but replaces the black-painted grille for a recessed mesh insert with a floating Chrysler logo. Mechanical upgrades, offered by way of a Stage 2 package, include a lowered coil-over suspension, a cold-air intake, and a cat-back exhaust.
The Charger Redline and 200 Super S packages should be available through Mopar later in 2012.

Ram Cargo Van has a Certain Minivan Appeal - USA Today - 12/30/11

It's called the Ram Cargo Van, but really, it's the Ram Cargo Minivan, because the latest utility vehicle from Chrysler amounted to a makeover of the brand's highly regarded Town and Country minivan, USA Today said. Some of the creature comforts for the driver - map lights, dual glove box, door courtesy lamps, to name three - left over from its minivan role are still kept in place, the article said. Now on sale, the cargo van is plenty capable - it can carry 18,000 pounds, rivaling pickups, the article said. Chrysler says the cargo van is both fuel efficient - 17 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the highway - and similarly priced with the competition, the article said - yet it offers a lot more room inside.
